All Smiles!

Hey!

It's been a long time since I've been on this blog. But ever since I got his info in the mail, I've been really happy. Subrata's in school, thank God! And I mean it literally! :D

I'll post some of his basic info:

  • Name: Subrata Halder
  • Age: 9
  • Sex: M
  • In School: YES!!!

Add. Info:

Both of his parents work, and he has an older sister who's 13. Their monthly income is $35 (USD). I just checked the exchange rate between US dollars and Indian rupees. As of right now, 1 USD is equal to approximately 49.35 INR. That means his family income per day is just a little over $1. And the sad part: I can make a little more than that just working at a computer lab for 4 hours. It's so messed up. It really is.

I emailed CI about setting the family up with an income-generating project so that they can raise their income and overall improve their quality of living. I also asked about what the family would need in terms of items, so I can start saving for the special donations.

Honestly I have to thank my friend Jen, who has not only encouraged me to sponsor a child in CI but also has kept me up to speed in the sponsoring process and helped me not get too caught up in the college life. With homework, projects, and exam, it's really easy to lose track of everything. I also want to thank God too, because I know he wouldn't give me what I can't handle. If Subrata wasn't in school, I don't think I could have handled it.

Greetings! The Initial Information Has Arrived!

Hey everyone!

My name is Cherise and this is my first time ever sponsoring a child. I'm very excited!! After so many conversations on the phone w/ Jen and talking about her sponsored kids, I decided to sponsor one of my own. :D The child's name is Subrata, and he is 9 years old and from India.

In less than 15 minutes, I will have his information in my hand! Gotta go to the campus post office to pick it up. (They considered it as a package?!) I'm so nervous right now (yet super excited!), the reason being that I don't know if he's in school for this year. If so, then that's great! If not, then I will have to contact CI via email, asking for the parents' approval for Subrata to attend school. I would also have to come up w/ the funding. After all, I'm a working college girl trying to save as much money as possible! College know how to make a girl poor.

Hopefully everything will turn out fine. If not, I'll make things work. Somehow, someway! :D

p.s. I'll post the information later tonight or tomorrow.
